These aren’t values. Values are words. These are things we do.
No one is too senior for the unglamorous work. The CEO answers customer Slack messages. The CTO writes release notes. Whoever sees the thing that needs doing, does it — not because it’s their job, but because it’s in front of them. The moment someone on this team thinks a task is beneath them, we’ve started becoming a company we don’t want to be.
We sell to people who work with physical systems. Before you debug a telemetry pipeline, hold the device it came from. Before you design a dashboard, watch ten minutes of a real stream. Before you pitch a prospect, know what they actually fly, build, or launch. The companies that build hardware tools without touching hardware end up building for an imagined user. We don’t do that.
Decisions are a tax. Unmade decisions are a bigger tax. We answer prospects within the day. We tell candidates where they stand. We cut features we’re not going to build instead of leaving them on the roadmap. The slow maybe is the thing that burns everyone — the person waiting, and us for carrying it. A quick no is a gift. So is a quick yes.
The best companies do a few things exceptionally well. We’d rather have three customers who love us than thirty who tolerate us. We’d rather ship one feature that works beautifully than five that mostly work. Every time we’re tempted to add — a feature, a meeting, a tool, a customer segment — the first question is whether something comes off to make room. The answer to “should we also do X” is usually no. No is the starting position.
We show up useful. We make the intro before we need one. We answer the question before we’re asked. We send the thing that might help before anyone requests it. The reverse — only reaching out when you need something — is how you become the person whose messages people dread. This applies to customers, investors, other founders, candidates, and each other. Give first, generously, and the asks take care of themselves.
