What counts as an event?: A single metric write, log line, or video frame ingested by the platform. Batched writes count as one event per metric.
When does it make sense to move to enterprise?: When you’re selling into primes or program offices that ask about telemetry before they sign, or when self-serve usage tops a few hundred devices. We size the contract to your fleet.
Is there a free tier?: Yes, self-hosting is free. The whole platform is source-available at github.com/plexus-oss/plexus and installs on your own hardware in one command, with no usage caps. Plexus Cloud is usage-priced from the first data point ($0.10 per million metric rows, $0.10 per million log/event rows, $0.25 per video hour).
What's the difference between self-hosting and Plexus Cloud?: Same code. Cloud means we run the storage and gateway and you pay for usage. Self-host means you run everything and pay nothing, until you want enterprise features (SSO, RBAC, audit logs, multi-tenancy), which unlock with a license key priced per contract.
Does the self-hosted platform phone home?: No. No telemetry, no license server, no update checks. License keys are verified offline with a public key that ships in the source, and you can read the code that does it. Air-gapped networks are a first-class deployment target.
Who owns the dashboards and models?: You do. Everything we build with you during enterprise deployment (dashboards, schema, firmware wrappers) is work-for-hire, assigned on delivery.
